Well as you may know between October 1998 and April this year I served onboard the Mercy Ship, Anastasis. Ever since then I have been praying and talking to Jesus about what He would like me to do and I believe I have received an answer. It means going back to the ship and serving long term in the medical department. I have been in communication with personnel onboard the Anastasis and they have accepted me as a long term crewmember in a nursing capacity.

What does this mean I hear you ask? The ship leaves South Africa bound for their next outreach on the 5th of January 2000. I plan, and have booked flights, to leave either on the 1st ,2nd or 3rd of January 2000 to arrive before this departure date and would like to initially commit myself for two years.

How will I support myself while onboard the ship? Well all people who serve with Mercy Ships have to pay their own way and as a result before I am accepted as full time crew I have to show that I have financial support for this time period. I am taking a leap of faith and trusting in what I believe God is telling me to do and that is to ask others for financial support. I need a minimum of $371.50 USD or approx $600 AUD per month. $271.50 USD goes to crew fees, the other $100 is for personal expenses (Mercy Ships recommends $170 USD as a more realistic figure). I am saving like mad and plan to meet one third of the cost, i.e. $200 AUD/month. I will have a one way air ticket and will be relying on God for the return airfare in two or so years. I need your Help. I am asking you to give prayerful consideration to supporting me financially to do the work I believe God is asking me to do. I cannot do this without your help but do not want you to give out of a sense of responsibility. I believe if you ask God as to how much you can contribute then He will answer and support you in the decision you make. You can either make a one off contribution or better still making a regular monthly contribution. I understand that we have many financial demands placed upon us so that is why I ask you to pray about it and wait on God's answer.

Another important aspect is prayer. You may not be able to commit yourself financially to the work so please consider being committed to praying for me.

Now a little about the Anastasis. It has two main roles, first is the medical ministry; that is, going to poorer countries and providing-

Facial operations to those who have facial deformities as well as ophthalmic surgeries,
Basic health care and education,
Building medical clinics and/or amenities.

The second aspect is to show and tell others about Jesus Christ.

The Anastasis and its crew endeavours to spend half its time on outreach (going to poorer countries and providing medical help) and the other half raising support and awareness of Jesus in countries around Europe, USA and other richer countries. As the ship is fully funded by donations this latter role is crucial for the ship as without it there would be no outreach.
