Hello my brothers and sisters!
Oh! Do I feel like such a slacker for not writing sooner. Can I just say that life has been such a whirlwind since I have been back!!! When the Lord told me last New Year's Eve that my 'new year' would be full of change -- take courage! -- He wasn't kidding!
Two days after I returned from the ship, I flew four hours from California to Chicago, Illinois (USA) to interview for a position in a medical school to become a Physician Assistant (a medical provider who sees patients like a doctor, but works under the supervision of a doctor -- like in a team). It was quite overwhelming to be in a snowy climate when I had just come from the African sun! I moved about during the interview as if I was in a daze: "Lord, guide my steps".
Two days after I returned home again, I received a response of "yes" and I had to respond immediately. I was very overwhelmed. I barely had time to reflect on my DTS experience and speak to God about what was next. I was uncertain if God was calling me to this field or to step out into the unknown and go to Phase II (those that knew me best on the Conakry team remember this struggle). I decided on school in Chicago and within a few weeks, I moved all my belongings to Illinois. For those in Europe, Chicago is about 4 days of driving non-stop from my home in California -- the USA is a big country!
The past 8 months in school have been very hard. Each term I have been studying in over ten classes, each class on a very difficult and demanding topic. Our program is especially fast and each student is pushed to extremes. The medical students (those studying to be as regular doctor) are surprised at how hard our schedule is -- even harder than theirs!!! Yikes! It has been quite an adjustment to come from 24/7 of Jesus in DTS to having very little time to even eat and sleep.
My prayers lately are to:
I think of all of you often. It is funny how little things (a word, a picture, a scripture verse) bring one of your faces to mind with such clarity. I am so thankful to have a bond with people who know the good and the (very :) bad within me and still love so deeply. I miss you. Won't it be fun when we are in heaven, sitting around a 'milk' tree or worshipping with crazy dancing or listening to each other speak from a chair with a small candle to light each of our faces? I can't wait to hear your "life highlights" when we are in His presence forever...
Until the next letter...Much love and blessings to you all!
Your sis,
Kelly
