Hello to whoever is out there
I am sitting at the reception of Mercy SHips UK and looking out of the door and also previously experiencing it on my way over here, it is snowing absolutle buckets. Obviously not literally buckets that would be just crazyness. no one would get to work as we would all be passed out in the middle of the Oval from being knocked by a whopping great bucket falling from the sky. But yes it is snowing a lot and it was blimming freezing this morning. I was even cold under my duvet. But it is pretty and hopefully it will setlle and stop snowing so it'll e even nicer.
Bye for now. Daniel
Man am I mad.
I just wrote a massive email and when I decided to condence the window slightly it just wipedit. Well anyway. The last two weeks have been brilliant.
The first week I had staff orientation for new staff. That was really good for getting to know some people.
This last week we had at home week which is a week when the whole base meets. We hav lots of worship prayer and talks. It is mainly a time of waiting on God and seeing where he wants us as a base to go. Through this week I have felt really called to areas within the base.
There is a thing called the factory which is lead by two brothers, Tre and Trente Sheppard and Tre's wife Tori. They work with youth, they recently had some DTS's from different places come in for a week.
So I hope to get involved with what they are doing when I am not working. They get there name from being based in the old factory on the base.
Half of it is still needing major renovation but they have part of renovated into a hall where they hold gatherings. We had our at home week in there this year.
It was a kind of symbolic thing as at last years at home week they were praying about the factory and felt it was to be used for youth events and the factory team. So they all went down to it banged there way in and spent a lot of the week cleaning it out and sorting it out so it could be used.
I also got to know lots more people this week. I am slightly unsure if God wants me to go back on the ship but I am totally open to where He sends me if He does..Love you loads
Daniel
Well what's up with me. As most of you know I stayed on in Mercy Team with Esther Fassler. It was a really great time with a few challenges from the enemy within the team. But in all we had a good time.
We spent our time doing things like visiting Kumbas orphanage, helping out at the Village Clinic, pastoring a few locals and helping around the house. Some of the big challenges the satan threw our way were whe esther had almost all her money stolen and so she thought she was going to have to go home. Fortunately God had provided me with more than enough so I gave Esther the money to stay.
Hndi was also near by and so we saw a lot of him. After five weeks Esther and Andi flew home, and so I was left all alone in Mercy Team. But I only spent one more week with
Mercy Team as I was joining the ship.
So I joined the ship and worked in the engine room. Whoa what fun!! If you like over heating go there but otherwise I don't advise working there. Especially on a sail over the equator. I had a week of being ill before I was able to work in engineering. I spent the first week or so just helping out with odd jobs and then I was trained in the job of Main Engine Motorman. This is
basically going around the main engine room and checking oil levels.
I also have to take a whole load of readings. I didn't mind the job too much but I didn't like the shifts. Whilst on the sail watchmen are on a 4 hour shift system. I started out on 4-8 so that was morning and afternoon. I turned 20 on the sail and celebrated with brownies on the Pool Deck. We arrived in East London. It was time to say good bye to a few from DTS as they were going off on a trip around South Africa.
I had decided not to join them as I felt I should go home. So I got my ticket and a few weeks later I was flying out of East London. That was a beautiful sight on one of the flights. As the plane was taking off I could see a lightning storm lighting up a patch of clouds in the distance. I got back to England and went to stay with Miss Bird for a few days. Whoa I must backtrack a little I forgot something.
OK so we are still in Guinea I have joined the ship. I was thinking about what to do next. I knew it was meant to be in Mercy Ships as I have had the conviction to be with them a long long time. So I went to chat to Judy as I want to work with her in her department one day. This went well but we both knew it wasn't possible and wasn't meant to happen yet but maybe in the future. I was then talking to Stinky (Inky) and said wouldn't it be cool if Brian Sloan emailed me tomorrow. (Brian Sloan who is he waht is he? Brian Sloan used to be on the ship as the first officer and captain for a while. He also used to go to my church, but before I went there but I had heard of him from people. He also knows my dad quite well as they met a while back, I had also spoken to him before. He now works in the English Mercy Ships office in Public Relations. He had also said to my dad he would like to speak to me about media in Mercy Ships, which my dad then passed on to me). So the next day Brian Sloan didn't email me. Instead I get a phone call from him. And he offers me a job as his assistant in Public Relations. Immediatly I say yes (well almost immediatly).
So where are we I am staying with Laura. We spent some time catching up. I also went over to the Mercy Ships base as it is not far from Lauras. I met my new boss and helped a little around the office. After this week at Lauras I went over to the base again, this time I was off to help Brian with a Mercy Ships stand basically promoting Mercy Ships at a Christian Exhibition. If any of you remember him we stayed with Dr Keith who was on the ship.
After this tiring week I then went on to visit a few relatives who lived between where I was and home. I then went back to the South West and home. What a strange experience. I had already been in England for 2 weeks but not actually home. It also felt like I hadn't hardly been away, the last nine months felt like a dream (thankfully they don't now that I have talked more about what I have done). That evening I saw Andi again as we had both promised to go out for a pint at the pub when we got home. The next day, man I didn't stop. We were moving house a week after I got home and I had to totally decorate my room. WEll it didn't really get fully finished but pretty much by the time we moved all the furniture in. It still isn't fully done but there are other jobs still being done. After a few weeks here it now feels like home.
What have I been up to since I got home? Well I was finishing off painting my room. Then I was looking for a job, which I have finally found which I start in a couple of days. I have also spent time surfing with friends. Catching up with some of my friends who are home from Uni. In 4 weeks I am going to be helping on a kids camp, after that I go on a Christian Music festival called Soul Survivor, Matt Redman who we sang a lot of songs written by him is part of Soul Survivor. After that I am hoping to join the Mercy Ships base as soon as possible. But for the time being I am looking for my supporters to allow me to go and work there.
So if any of you do feel like supporting someone I am very welcome to recieve support but also don't forget Eddie and Carolyn who are back on the ship along with Beth.
I hope everyone is well and do write to this site. Lots and lots of big love from the man known as Daniel, Danny, Dani, D and by people back home through my sisters influence the man who is marrying Esther. Don't worry though I'm not, I would announce it better if I was.
Love you and I am missing all of you heaps. Sometimes it makes me sad to think of how far some of you are away but I am always happy to know how at the same time how close you are.
